Pieter Aucamp
Director, ASL Group

Pieter matriculated at Kalahari High School, Kuruman, in 1989 and obtained his tertiary qualifications from the University of Stellenbosch. He did his articles with Coopers and Lybrand. Following his articles and qualification as a chartered accountant, he continued to work in the tax department of Coopers and Lybrand and obtained his MCom (Taxation) from the University of Stellenbosch. In 1998 he bought the auditing firm Philip Marais & Co., predecessor of ASL.

Other than serving a wide client base as advisor and auditor, Pieter focuses in particular on estate and succession planning, where he employs not only his technical know-how and experience but also his passion for human relationships and interaction, to achieve outstanding results.

He is also responsible for services rendered by our subsidiary, ASL Trust Services. In addition to being our founder and acting as director of the ASL group of companies, Pieter is involved on board and advisory level with several non-profit organisations and other initiatives. Pieter and his wife, Alette, have two sons. He enjoys hunting, horse-riding, reading, playing with his sons and dining out with his wife.


Arnold Scholtz
Director, ASL Group

Arnold Scholtz matriculated from Outeniqua High School and obtained his tertiary qualifications from the University of Stellenbosch and Unisa. After successfully passing his professional examinations and completing his articles at the firm now known as ASL, he qualified as a chartered accountant at the end of 2001. After briefly serving as audit manager for ASL he was appointed as director in 2002.

In addition to a diverse client base that draws on all of the services the group offers, Arnold is responsible for services rendered by our subsidiary, ASL Advisory.

Arnold excels in situations where alternative thinking is required, and possesses an ingrained ability to find practical solutions to complex problems.

Besides acting as director of the ASL group of companies, Arnold is involved in a non-executive and strategic capacity with a number of other initiatives.

Arnold and his wife Magda have two sons and a daughter. He enjoys hunting, mountain biking and good wine, and has a keen interest in information technology and innovative gadgetry.


Christa Swart
Director, ASL Group

Christa matriculated at Porterville High School in 2003. She obtained the degrees BAcc and BAccHons from the University of Stellenbosch. She commenced her articles with then BGR Aucamp Scholtz in 2008 and, after qualifying as chartered accountant, was appointed as audit manager in 2011. She became a director of ASL in March 2012.

Christa's particular focus area is audit and risk management, where her keen eye for detail coupled with superior technical proficiency, serves her well not only as professional advisor to her clients, but also as technical lead at ASL for all audit and accounting matters.

Christa and her husband, Ben, have a daughter. She enjoys good food and wine, cooking, entertaining, and interior decorating.


Jaco Van Straaten
Director, ASL Group

Jaco matriculated at the Hoërskool Pietersburg and obtained the degrees BCompt and a Hons BCompt, both from Unisa. He did his articles with Diemont, Zimmerman & Bolink in Polokwane and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2010. After gaining further experience as financial manager with the legal firm Heyns and Partners in Cape Town, he joined ASL in 2011 as an audit manager. In January 2013 he was promoted to associate with primary responsibility for the tax department, and he was appointed as a director in March 2014.

Jaco’s particular focus area is tax compliance and administration, with dispute resolution being an integral part thereof. Having completed the Advanced Programme in Taxation during 2014 he is now better equipped to fulfil his leading role in this area.

Although Jaco's passion for taxation is in the forefront, he also serves a wide variety of clients with auditing, accounting, secretarial and consultation needs.


Joanie Viviers
Director, ASL Advisory

Joanie obtained the degree BAccLLB from the University of Stellenbosch in 2007 and obtained a BAccHons from Unisa in 2009.

She completed her articles at LDP Inc. in 2010 and qualified as chartered accountant in February 2012. She did her articles as a candidate attorney with Cluver Markotter Inc. and was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in February 2013. Joanie enjoys horse riding, jogging and spending quality time on the family farm near Beaufort West.


Malan Botha
Director, ASL Advisory

Malan matriculated from Outeniqua High School in 2002 and enrolled at the University of Stellenbosch in 2007, after working overseas and in Stellenbosch.

He obtained the Degrees BCom and BComHons in Management Accounting in 2009 and 2010 respectively, and qualified as Professional Accountant (SA) in January 2014, after completing his articles at ASL. Malan was appointed as Business Development Manager at ASL In January 2014, during which year he also qualified as Associate Chartered Management Accountant. He was appointed as Director at ASL Advisory in March 2015. He has a great passion for the field of Management Accounting. Driven by this passion he is primarily involved with business valuation, management and Business Intelligence reporting, and various areas relating to business investment and performance. Malan enjoys music, good company, the outdoors and sport.
